Memorial Day Weekend is usually filled with beaches and barbecues. Unfortunately, things may look a little different this year – especially if your plans to divorce have been put on hold due to the Coronavirus and you are living with your soon-to-be ex. If you are quarantining with your soon to be ex-spouse, here are some tips to make the holiday weekend more bearable:
- Spend time outside
It is no secret that there are real benefits to fresh air especially when most of us are working from home and still living on lockdown. Go for a walk (social distancing, of course), sit in your backyard and read a book, go to the park, or if you are lucky enough to live near an open beach, head there for a socially distant swim.
- Change up the routine
While working from home on weekdays may keep you and your spouse busy enough to avoid fighting about your impending divorce, a holiday weekend can often result in increased tensions. To make this weekend feel differently, change up your routine.
Maybe you have yearly Memorial Day traditions. While travel is limited, try to incorporate as many of these holiday traditions as possible, in a safe way. Barbecue your favorite foods, swim, and enjoy time with your children.
- Spend time with your children
Many parents have been dealing with the announcement that camps will be closed this summer. You are probably thinking, “now what?”
While there is no magic answer on how to keep your children busy all summer during a pandemic, now is a good time to figure out how you will get through it. The cold weather is behind us and summer is around the corner. Use this Memorial Day Weekend to refresh your mindset and think about outdoor safe ways to spend time with your children.
If you and your spouse cannot co-exist together during this holiday weekend, schedule designated periods during the day to separately spend time with the children. Though you are likely not celebrating this weekend the way you expected, kick off this Memorial Day Weekend with a focus on the children and be safe and healthy.
